Porter Gene Boydston, MSGT, USAF (RET.), went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 8, 2013.
Porter was born December 5, 1928 in Jonah, Texas to Charles Edward Boydston and Alva Myrtle Satterfield Boydston.
After four years active military service, Porter completed his 20 years in the United States Air Force Reserves. In 2000, Porter retired from Featherlite Building Products Corporation after 45 years of employment. He served as church treasurer and as a deacon for many years at Kinney Avenue Baptist Church. At the time of his death, Porter was a member of Bannockburn Baptist Church. After he retired, Porter greatly enjoyed volunteering at Baranoff Elementary School where he helped teachers and let boys and girls read to him. He became “Grandpa” to many children. Porter was also an avid supporter of the Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas. During his lifetime he donated almost 22 gallons of blood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law Homer and Helen Thornton Boydston; his brother James Neal Boydston; his brother Charles Mervin Boydston; his sister and brother-in-law Della Boydston Thornton and Thomas Thornton; his brother-in-law Hugh Wiseman and sister-in-law Violet Wiseman; and his son Howard Lynn Boydston. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jackie; his son and daughter-in-law Darrell and Lynn Boydston of Bastrop; his son and daughter-in-law Ron and Martina Boydston of Leander; his daughter-in-law Linda Boydston of San Antonio, his daughter and son-in-law Laurie and Marvin Cooper of Austin; his sisters-in-law Joan Boydston and Pat Helms of Georgetown; grandsons Preston Boydston, Danny Henry, and Jacob Cooper; granddaughters Mary Beth Lamprecht, Haley Boydston, and Bailey Cooper and numerous great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2013, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Mr. Chuck Davis of Bannockburn Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Cooper, Preston Boydston, Danny Henry, Jim and Gerry Becklund, Conrad and Karlene Hiser, Lois and Louis Kahn, Susie Machen, Bob Kenney, and the Featherlite Building Products gang.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff of Stonebridge Health Center on Circle Drive for the kindness, care, and love they provided to Porter. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Bannockburn Baptist Church Building Fund, 7100 Brodie Lane, Austin, Texas 78745 or to the charity of one’s choice.
