FRENCH, Jeanne Dell Hoover

Jeanne Dell Hoover French died in a car accident August 16, 2007 at the age of 71. She is survived by her mother, Barbara Hoover of Austin, sister, Gayle Morris of Austin, son, Steven French, and his wife, Joye of Austin, daughter, Denise and her husband, Richard Moczygemba of Killeen. Grandchildren are Jodi and Donny French of Austin, Walter Moczygemba and wife, Jean of Austin, Brak Ann Billingsley of Killeen and Amos Moczygemba of Terra Haute, Indiana. Great grandchild is Hayley Billingsley of Killeen. Jeanne was born in Austin on December 11, 1935 to George Watson Hoover and Barbara Ellen Williams Hoover. She graduated from Austin High School in 1953 then married Weldon Ray French on June 14, 1953. She lived in Austin all her life until 2006 when she moved to Killeen. Jeanne was a kindergarten teacher, a secretary and a Sunday school teacher at various times with the former Brentwood Church of Christ. She worked many years at the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary as an assistant to the faculty. She was an accomplished painter and co- owner of the former Poor Man’s Art Gallery on Neches, near 6th Street. At age 51, Jeanne graduated from St. Edward’s University with a bachelor’s degree, achieving a lifelong dream. She continued on to earn a master’s degree from Texas State University. She then became a licensed professional counselor. In recent years, Jeanne used her talents as a storyteller in area nursing homes. She completed a mystery novel, wrote a children’s book, published poetry and led workshops and book groups. She also helped facilitate spirituality groups. She worked with Senior Connections at various Central Texas nursing homes, counseling individuals and groups. Jeanne was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothes and beautiful quilts. Jeanne was devoted to her family and multitude of friends. She will be remembered for her indomitable spirit. Jeanne will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Jeanne will be in state for viewing from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35 in Georgetown. There will be a private burial service at 11:00 Thursday morning, August 23 at Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Andice. Friends and family are invited to a gathering to celebrate the memory of Jeanne’s life at 2:00 Thursday afternoon, August 23, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 600 East 50th Street in Austin.
