HUTTO, Bertha Nell (Brooks)

Bertha Nell Brooks Hutto, age 86, died early Wednesday morning, January 16, 2013 in Round Rock, Texas following a short illness. On July 8, 1926, Bertha Nell was born to L. G. & Bertha (Davis) Daniel in Bertram, Texas. She was the youngest of 5 children. Her family lived in both Central and West Texas when she was a child, and Bertha Nell graduated from Divide High School in 1943. She married her first husband, James Maurice (Jim) Brooks, in Austin on August 15, 1946, and then moved with him to his home state of Kentucky. After 7 years, the couple returned to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1953 with their 2 young sons, where they lived until his passing in 1980. Bertha Nell worked for over 20 years for the HEB Corporate offices in Corpus Christi, making some of her dearest friends. In September of 1984, Bertha Nell reconnected with a former friend from her hometown, Ward Berton (Bert) Hutto. After a whirlwind romance, they married on February 9, 1985 and settled briefly in San Antonio, before retiring and moving to Llano, Texas. Bertha Nell and her husband spent over 20 years in Llano, where they became active in their church and made many friends playing dominoes. She was a big sports fan and enjoyed following the sporting events of her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in addition to the Lady Longhorns and the San Antonio Spurs. Bertha Nell is survived by her husband, Bert, her sons, James Daniel (Danny) Brooks of Corpus Christi, TX and Jerry Mark Brooks and his wife, Jill, of Bellaire, TX and her step-daughters, Jenny Baker and her husband, Charles, of Austin, TX and Gay Greiter of Minneapolis, MN. She had 5 grandchildren, Carrie (Brooks) Wilkin, Cory Brooks, Kendall Brooks, Austin Brooks & Cameron Brooks and her step-grandchildren, Christopher & Elizabeth Greiter. Bertha Nell also had 4 great-grandchildren, Luke, Brady & Bennett Wilkin and Sydney Brooks. Her brother, Roger Daniell, of Burnet, TX, also survives her. A memorial service will be held for Bertha Nell at 2:00pm on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Llano, Texas. Her burial services will take place at a later date in Corpus Christi, Texas.
