Sue, or Susie to some of her closest friends, was born on April 11, 1931 in Thorndale, Texas. She was the only child of E.C. and Clarice Poe. Sue spent much of her childhood living in various cities along the Gulf Coast where her father worked in oil refineries.
The family eventually returned to Thorndale. Although she technically graduated from another high school she considered herself a proud member of the Thorndale High School Class of 1949 and attended Homecoming almost every year.
Sue ventured out on her own and moved to Austin, Texas where she met her first husband, Dodge Clifford (Cliff) Moffitt while he was stationed at Bergstrom AFB. They married on January 17, 1956 in a small country church. After a brief stay in California they settled in Dallas, Texas where Cliff worked in banking. There they welcomed first Chris and then Melinda to their family. Lifelong and valued friendships were made while living in Dallas.
The family later moved to Austin where they joined the Northwest Hills United Methodist Church family. Sue was active in the church and spent time as a volunteer at various area hospitals. The family next moved to Houston where Sue spent her time shuffling her children from various sports activities and again volunteering and being active in her church. They eventually moved back to Austin to be close to Sue’s mom.
Sue lost both Cliff and her mother in the spring of 2000 but was able to have a second chance at love when she married a longtime family friend. Sue and Robert (Bob) Present were married on April 30, 2001 and celebrated their wedding anniversary every month for almost 12 years. Bob adored and cherished Sue. They travelled extensively, even venturing as far as Canada. Their marriage was one full of love and affection.
Sue remained an active member of her church and enjoyed the friendships she made in her Emmaus ladies group. Sue is survived by her loving husband, Robert Present, children Chris Moffitt and Melinda Thomas, as well as grandchildren Taylor Thomas and Morgan Thomas.
