Eugenia Simmons, age 86, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2004, after a long struggle with illness. She was the youngest of six daughters born to Henry and Clara Martin of Williamson County, Texas, on July 22, 1918. She grew up on a farm near the Lawrence Chapel community in Williamson County where attended school and church. She was married to Elva F. Simmons and had two sons. The family moved to Austin, Texas, in 1951 where she began to work at the Austin State School on West 35th Street. After the death of her husband, she sold Avon products in and around the West Austin area for many years. She truly enjoyed the friendships that she developed with many of her customers. She was a very independent strong willed and outspoken individual. Her hobbies and interests, in addition to amassing a huge Avon decanter and figurine collection, included gardening, reading, sewing, watching sporting events and cooking. She enjoyed preparing the holiday meals for her family and friends. She was blessed with many neighborhood friends, some of whom became like family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son and her eldest son, Franklin. She was also preceded in death by all five of her sisters. Surviving her are her son, Jimmy Simmons of Austin; her grandson, Johnny Simmons and his wife, Tami, of Hutto Texas; great-grandchildren, Shaun Simmons and Staci Simmons, also of Hutto, Texas, and her sister- in-law, Vivian Simmons of Austin, Texas. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Gracy Woods I and the staff at North Austin Medical Center for their diligent and compassionate care. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 27, 2004, at the Lawrence Chapel Cemetery in Williamson County, Texas.
